SCOPE OF PRACTICE
A Kneaded Calm massage therapists are licensed professionals and held to the highest standards of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and the Registered Massage Therapists Association of Ontario.
Massage Therapy is a profession in which the therapist applies manual techniques with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client.
Massage Therapists do not diagnose or prescribe for medical conditions nor are they allowed to provide treatment for a specific condition without a doctor’s supervision. The massage therapist is required to refer you for diagnosis and to follow recommendations of your physician.
RESPECT FOR CLIENT NEEDS AND BOUNDARIES
We are happy to adjust pressure, musical volume, work longer on an area or move on if you request it. You have the right to refuse any treatment and stop massage at any time,
PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES
Requests for sexual activity or sexual comments/inferences will not be tolerated and be viewed as solicitation, and reported to the proper authorities. The session may be cancelled and not rescheduled.
The genital area will not be massaged under any circumstances. A professional distance will be maintained from these areas.
In certain situations gluteal, hip and breast areas may be included in treatment if indicated., It is important that you fully understand the nature and purpose of this treatment and give written consent prior to treatment. Often, pain the low back and hip areas is due to chronic posture of “flexion” (from driving, working with computers etc). This constant flexion of muscles and connective tissue (attached to the hips and pelvic area) can result in muscle tightness. By relaxing these muscles, it is possible to reduce discomfort. Likewise, muscles ("the Pecs") in the front chest and breast area may also become tight from repeated forward flexion of the arms, pulling the upper back and neck forward and causing pain..
CONFIDENTIALITY
The discussion between you and your RMT is confidential. The massage therapist is mindful that this is your time of relaxation and will keep conversation to a minimum, asking some initial questions about pressure and tenderness. Some clients find a little conversation at the beginning of session helps to facilitate the relaxation- but sometimes you just "want to fall asleep"-- and have quiet for all of the treatment. This is good too-- enjoy your rest and you will be softly awoken when it's time to turn onto your back.
EXISTING AND NEW MEDICAL CONDITIONS
It is your responsibility to inform your massage therapist of any medical treatment you are currently undergoing and any changes since the last session. In some cases, you may be asked to provide written permission from the physician, chiropractor, physical therapist for the massage may be continued.
